Nanocrystals for Smarter Windows
Sunlight beaming through the windows of our cars and buildings brings natural light and solar heating to our interior spaces. By designing smart windows that can dynamically control these energy fluxes on demand, we aim to save energy and make life more comfortable. Our work has explored the unique optical properties of metal oxide nanocrystals that enable us to selectively control light and infrared energy coming from the sun. These nanocrystals can be coated on glass from ink-like solutions, potentially enabling low cost manufacturing of smarter windows in the future.
