Two tracks are available for GREAT summer internships:
Full-Time Track: Students perform research on a full-time basis in the laboratory of their assigned research mentor. Students participating in the full-time track earn two research credit hours from UT Austin and receive a $3,680 stipend over the course of the 8 week program. Full-Time is considered at least 40 hours/week of laboratory work but can vary depending on the design of the research project.
Part-Time Track: Students perform research on a part-time basis in the laboratory of their assigned research mentor. Students participating in the part-time track earn two research credit hours from UT Austin. Part-Time is considered at least 10 hours/week of laboratory work but can vary depending on the design of the research project.
To apply for GREAT, please assemble an application package that contains:
A completed application form.
An unofficial transcript describing courses taken at Austin Community College.
A resume or curriculum vitae.
A personal statement (limited to 600 words) describing why you are interested in participating in GREAT and how this program fits into your long-term career goals. This essay should also identify UT faculty members you are most interested in having as a research mentor. A list of UT faculty participating in GREAT can be found here.
Two letters of recommendation, at least one of which should be from an Austin Community College faculty member. Letters of recommendation should be directly sent to: GREAT@cm.utexas.edu. Please have your letter writers to include your last name in the title of the file they submit.
Once you have assembled your application package, please submit it as a single PDF file to: GREAT@cm.utexas.edu. Please include your last name in the name of your PDF application file.
